I’ve just realised that Gary Numan, of all people, wrote maybe the greatest ever lyric of teenage heartbreak in ‘Are Friends Electric?’ I don’ think I spotted it before because the lyrics come at the end of two different verses but the second completes the first and it’s devastating.

I don’t think it meant anything to you…
You see, it meant everything to me.
